Life of Pie

2019 | USA  | 12 MINUTES

When Jen Zeuner and Anne Keller moved to the tiny, conservative high desert town of Fruita, Colorado almost twenty years ago it was not on the map as far as mountain biking was concerned. It was a small and tight knit community without much economic vitality. Jen and Anne have left an inedible imprint on Fruita — at the outset they were on the fringe and a bit ostracized, they’re now at the very heart and soul of the community.

When Jen and Anne arrived, Fruita was still underground as far as a mountain bike destination, but now it’s as renowned to cyclists as Moab, UT. Unlike Moab, Fruita isn’t just known for it’s riding – you go there to eat hot pie. Jen and Anne weren’t shy about using their lesbian innuendos to sell pizza, even from the beginning. Slogans like ‘friends let friends eat hot pie’ and ‘we snatch kisses and vice versa’ were on free stickers by the cash register even when Fruita wasn’t quite ready for it.

Jen is a former competitive BMX rider and World Cup downhill mountain biker and Anne is a contributing photographer for Bike magazine, so when they’re not slinging pizza until they literally run out of dough you’ll find them out riding their favorite loops with their dogs.

Lessons from Jeju

USA | 2020 | 13 MINUTES

Seven months pregnant and apprehensive of the effect motherhood would have on her career as a professional freediver, Kimi Werner took a trip to the island of Jeju in South Korea to meet her heroes, the haenyeo–a group of freediving and fishing women whose culture dates back centuries, and who broke cultural norms by becoming the first group of working mothers in South Korea. In Kimi’s quest for understanding, she saw that these women of the sea, most of whom are well into their 70s, never let motherhood slow them down–that in the water they move and feel like young women. The same way that Kimi, while pregnant and wobbly on land, still navigates the sea with precision and grace.

Join Kimi on her journey in Lessons from Jeju, where she learns motherhood for a professional athlete isn’t a roadblock but instead a path forward. “The world doesn’t seem to embrace how badass motherhood is,” says Kimi.

TranSending

CANADA  |  2020

TranSending follows the journey of Erin Parisi as she comes into her own identity as a Transgender woman and trains for the Seven Summits to create awareness and visibility for the Trans community. This is a journey of extensive vulnerability, heartbreak and courage.  TranSending showcases the vulnerable journey into self discovery as experienced by Erin Parisi, the first Trans Woman to take on the 7 Summits.

FROM DIRECTOR, MAIRIN HART :
I first learned about Erin Parisi's goal to climb all the 7 summits from an article in Outside Magazine. In the article Erin states, "You can't accuse me of hiding if I'm standing on the top of every mountain of every continent saying, 'Here I am,". This line really stuck with me. Being a female director in the queer community, my goal is to give a voice and a platform to people with outstanding goals that can teach a universal lesson to all. Erin Parisi didn't necessarily want to be visible, but the trans community needs a role model like her as a spokesperson. I am honored to be a part in help tell her story to the masses.

Whether it's a newborn bonding with her mother, an animal lover coming of age, a sunset hike, or a morning ritual, the goal of this film is to celebrate the way that women spend time in nature, and show how we’re connected not only to the land – but to each other.
